Afrobeat singer and recently a Grammy nominee Seun Kuti say’s its unfortunate that many contemporary artistes are claiming to be the ‘new Fela’.
Seun Kuti, son of the Afrobeat pioneer Fela had a radio interview at Cool FM, Lagos where he talked about his music and The Legacy of Fela Anikulapo Kuti. While on air, the ‘Black Times’ crooner said, “Fela’s legacy belongs to his family alone. It’s disrespectful to call yourself ‘the new Fela’.
He further stated that all of Fela’s legacy and heritage was for his family citing an example that people in Jamaica don’t call themselves the next Bob Marley as it is disrespectful.
